A cherished part of the Launceston community and surrounding areas since 1963, G F Gubbin Funeral Directors has supported generations of bereaved families with compassion and care.
Founded by Gordon Gubbin and continued by his Son Garfield for many years, the business started a new chapter in June 2023 under the guidance of Denise Wellington Funeral Services Ltd (based in Bude), maintaining the independent, family-run status and values.
Harry Wellington looks after the day to day running of the G F Gubbin office with immense pride, supported by his parents, Daryl & Denise Wellington, and his ‘right hand lady’ Jo Thomas, who is an extremely valued member of the team. Also, local Launceston man Kevin Bridgman, has worked alongside the Gubbin family with devotion for well over three decades and provides continued support to the business, dedicating his time to serving the community as he has done for so many years.
Although the business is now part of Denise Wellington Funeral Services, the G F Gubbin name will remain, as will the funeral home at Penlaurel, Langdon, Launceston. This will ensure continuity and familiarity for all concerned.
We are honoured to continue the Gubbin family’s trusted legacy, offering the same personal and professional service many families have valued for over 60 years. With our heartfelt thanks to Garfield for his remarkable dedication and the offer of continuing this highly regarded business, we look forward to serving the Launceston community and surrounding areas with integrity, kindness and tradition for generations to come.
Upon Garfield’s retirement in 2023, he departed with this lovely sentiment:
After 60 years in the business (I started very young!), it is with a heavy heart that I have decided it is time to hang up my tails and embark on a fresh adventure. I want to express my thanks to all the wonderful people I have met along the way. Your support and friendship have been invaluable and have sustained me throughout. It has truly been a privilege to have been able to help at a time of great need and I will miss it forever. Having Denise, Daryl, and Harry to take up the baton, it will mean that you will receive an even better service in the future. Just like myself, they are committed to caring for the people they come into contact with, and their guidance and advice will be essential for everyone. I would like to wish them every success in their new venture.
